Recently I was invited to write an article on the potential of immersive technologies in healthcare by Medhealth Outlook. It was a chance for me to re-look into the landscape of healthcare tech. With the recent hype on large language models (LLMs) and generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI), there have been many predictions on how it can impact healthcare. Somehow, LLMs and Gen AI have outshined the potential of the Metaverse in healthcare, but I for one, believe that the true power of the future of healthcare lies in the integration of LLMs and Gen AI in the Metaverse. Read more about the immersive technological trends in healthcare in my article below.

For those who are still unclear about the Metaverse, it is a virtual world where people can interact with each other and create their own content. It offers users immersive and engaging experiences, and potential social and collaborative opportunities. By integrating it with upcoming technologies like Gen AI, patient digital twins, and secure data sharing software, the Metaverse can potentially transform the healthcare industry. As what I recently envisioned in my talk on “Immersive Technologies and Our Pursuit of Population Health” at the CAPE Allied Health Congress in Singapore, the question that we should ask ourselves is not about whether the healthcare metaverse will come to pass, but rather, do we believe in the true potential of the healthcare metaverse when it comes to pass?

I shall end off with this – The metaverse is not just a game, but a new digital frontier that requires both passion and skills to explore.
