Building a Digital Health and AI Curriculum for Nurses

Over the last 2 weeks, I had the opportunity and privilege to attend a 5-day course/workshop at the NUS Course Design Institute to learn how to design and build a new upcoming module that I am currently developing for nursing students, to train them in Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence (AI). As many of you already know, I’m familiar with the these specialized domains, but it was really refreshing to attend this workshop – which I have to say, is really a Masterclass by itself – albeit it being very intensive.

Besides being a full-day course, there were many activities that included self-reflections, pedagogical readings, pre-class training videos, and even homework to do! (OMG! I have not done these in so long…) But most importantly, the in-class practice activities and tasks actually enabled me to truly design and develop what I truly believe will be a good quality module/course that will benefit my students.

Even though I already had experience in developing a Digital Health Course Suite, comprising of a Grad Cert, Grad Dip, and Master of Digital Health, when I was the Course Coordinator at La Trobe University (just prior and during the COVID-19 pandemic), I was surprised that I not only gained valuable insights in this masterclass, but my own perceptions of how a module/course should be developed also became more “enlightened” and clear.
